Why we like it
Grated Asian pear in the marinade tenderizes the beef and adds gentle sweetness, while soy, garlic, ginger and sesame give it a deep savory flavor. A fast, hot sear gives caramelized edges. High in protein, with rice to round it out.
Ingredients
- 200g beef sirloin (thinly sliced)
- For marinade: 3 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 2 tbsp honey, 3 garlic cloves, 2cm ginger, ½ Asian pear grated
- 80g rice
- Sesame seeds
- Scallions
- Kimchi to serve (optional)
Method
- Slice beef as thinly as possible — freeze for 30 minutes first to make this easier.
- Mix all marinade ingredients. Marinate beef minimum 30 minutes, ideally overnight.
- Cook rice.
- Heat a pan or grill pan over maximum heat.
- Cook beef in batches — do not crowd. 1-2 minutes only — it cooks very fast.
- Serve over rice.
- Top with sesame seeds and sliced scallions.
- Serve with kimchi on the side.
